My top tips to deal with festive stress, treats and parties!

With only a couple of weeks until Christmas, the party season is well and truly in full swing. This time of year is a time of happiness and catching up with family and friends, but it is also be a time that can trigger fatty feelings and fears we have around overeating or the temptations of yummy Christmas foods or overindulging in alcohol or sweets.

Tips to ensure you enjoy all the fun and still honor your body and your mind:

  1. Mind rehearse how you want to feel – see yourself coming home from events feeling proud and light after eating ‘clean’.
  2. Be a food snob – if it doesn’t taste absolutely amazing…. push the plate away. If it does tingle the taste buds then enjoy each mouthful, chew slow, eat mindfully and feel the joy.
  3. Alternate alcohol with a non-alcoholic drink – water or sparkling mineral water.
  4. Serve small tasters: No matter what you choose to eat, serve yourself less of it, chew it slowly, savor every mouthful. At a buffet or smorgasbord, choose two things. Make them exactly what you want. Savor them, if they are not absolutely amazing don’t eat them, choose something else.
  5. Add activity and movement to your outings…invite guests to join you for a walk, dance, play games outdoors with the children or grandchildren.

Just ensure you enjoy yourself! To your Potential!

There it is, I feel it here … (State where the sensation associated with stress is)

It feels like this … (State a description e.g. churning, tight, lump, knot, etc)

It’s causing feelings of (State emotional reaction e.g. overwhelm, worry, hopelessness etc)

Chest point again: I choose to switch it off

Tap or rub on each finger and thumb ending on the Karate Chop as you say:

Enough is enough, the past is the past

I choose to switch off stress

Even though I’ve experience that unhelpful reaction in the past

I choose to switch it off

That’s not me, that’s just wiring

I choose to switch it off

Enough is enough, the past is the past

I move on, I move forward

I am stronger every day

It’s easy to switch this stress off

I have permission to feel calm

I enjoy feeling calm

I release anyone who may have taught me to react this way in the past

I release them from the need for an apology

I give myself permission to manage challenges more easily from today

The more organized I am, the better I feel

The better I feel, the more organized I am

Enough is enough, the past is the past

Stuff happens every day and I choose to feel calm

The calmer I am, I better I feel

The better I feel, the calmer I am

I have permission to prioritise my needs

The better I feel, the happier I am

The happier I am, the better I feel

I breath in… (breath in deeply down to the lower belly)

I breathe out… (breath out slowly and soften the shoulders as you do this)

My mind is calm, I feel good

I breathe easily

I choose calm, I feel good…I believe in me

I know that I know what is best for me

The past is the past, enough is enough

I have permission to feel calm

I forgive myself for reacting this way in the past

I release triggers that caused this reaction in the past

The past is the past, I let it go

It’s a relief to feel calm, I am in control

I forgive myself for stressing in the past

Enough is enough, the past is the past

I knew what I knew back then

I know differently now

I switch off …(sensation you were experiencing)

I switch off … (emotional reaction you were experiencing)

I follow the checklist daily

It feels good to be clear…

The more clarity I have, the better I feel

The better I feel, the more clarity I have

Enough is enough, the past is the past

I move on, I move forward

Then as you breathe out:

I switch off stress and I switch on (What you want e.g. peace, calm, organization, clarity etc)

I have permission to be me

Stronger every day, more capable every day

I have permission to feel calm

I handle life’s challenges more easily from today

I let it go….

I switch it off…

I let it go….

Assess how you feel and if you need to repeat the recipe do so now or if you feel free of this issue, adapt my recipe to switch off other unhelpful feelings or emotions keeping you stuck.
